Are You Ready for a Vacation?

July 30th, 2009

I think we all love going on vacation. I know I do.

Vacations can be a wonderful way to let go and relax a little. Or perhaps you’re the adventurous type who’s looking for fun and excitement. Or maybe you want to spend some quality time with family and friends. All of those and more are great reasons for getting away.

But vacations can be expensive. The cost of hotels and eating keeps going up, especially if you’re a family with children. Or even if you’re not. You might be asking yourself, “How can we afford it?”

My wife Robyn and I have asked ourselves the same thing. Even though we’re not rich, we go on vacation several weeks a year. And we like to do it in comfort. So how do we do that? The answer is…

We bought a lot of timeshares. In fact, we’ve bought more than we can use right now,  because we plan to use them ourselves when we retire.  We live in Phoenix, Arizona, and it gets HOT here in the summer, so we would rather be somewhere else then. Staying in hotels for an extended period of time like that is going to be more expensive and less comfortable than staying in timeshare condos.

Because we have more than we can use right now, we rent out several of them. We’re not looking to make a profit on them, and we’re definitely not looking to sell them. We would just like to cover some of the ongoing costs.

In a timeshare, we have room to spread out, a kitchen we can cook and eat in, laundry right in our unit, comfortable beds, and much more. Some places even have a jacuzzi and a fireplace in the unit. We think it’s much better than a hotel.

You can save a lot of money, be a lot more comfortable, and have a lot more fun by going to a timeshare resort. The whole family can stay together (in separate bedrooms). No need to rent multiple hotel rooms. You don’t have to go out and eat expensive restaurant food all the time either. Many fabulous places are within driving distance for many people, so you can even save on transportation costs.

Even better, there are lots of things to do at a timeshare resort. The resorts themselves usually have a variety of great activities, such as games for the kids, wine and cheese parties for the adults, swimming pools for the whole family, and much much more. Friendly, helpful resort staff will help you find restaurants, tours, and attractions in the area (often with good discounts!) to make your vacation even more enjoyable and exciting.

If you’ve stayed at a timeshare before, you’ll know what I’m talking about. If you haven’t, you should try it. You’ll fall in love with it, too. All of the people who have rented from us have said they’ve had a wonderful time.
